Contents
Per Decolgen tab Paracetamol 500 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg. Per Decolgen Prin tab Paracetamol 500 mg, phenylephrine HCl 10 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of common cold including nasal congestion (for Decolgen Prin tab only), runny nose, headache & fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 tab every 6-8 hr as needed. Childn ≥12 yr 1 tab every 4-6 hr as needed.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hyperthyroidism, HTN, coronary disease; nephropathy. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs.
Special Precautions
Not to be used in patients w/ asthma, glaucoma, enlarged prostate or urinary retention. Not to be taken for >5 days. Patients w/ high BP, heart disease, hyperthyroidism or thyroid problems. Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol or other alcohol containing products. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Liver or kidney disease. 1st trimester of pregnancy. Lactation. Not to be used in childn <1 yr. Decolgen: Discontinue treatment if symptoms eg, swelling of face, eyelids, lips, hives, dizziness, rash, blisters, or peeling skin occur. Patients w/ history of asthma or emphysema. Dry mouth, thick phlegm, blurred vision, dizziness, confusion & abnormal blood cells. Avoid concomitant use w/ other acetaminophen containing products. Concomitant use w/ other CNS depressants eg, benzodiazepines, anticholinergics & antidepressants. Childn & elderly [more sensitive to side effects eg, drowsiness, dizziness, hallucinations, dry mouth, urinary retention, low BP, irritability, insomnia & seizures (paradoxical reaction)]. Decolgen Prin: Not to be taken in patients w/ diabetes.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth; epileptiform seizures (large doses); skin rashes.
Drug Interactions
Antihistamine may potentiate other CNS depressants. Prolonged actions by MAOIs. Prolonged use of paracetamol may potentiate oral anticoagulant.
